3 Skulls of the Toltecs Description

3 Skulls of the Toltecs is a point-and-click graphic adventure game developed by Revistronic and published by Time Warner in 1996. A sequel was launched in 2004 entitled The Westerner (Wanted: A Wild Western Adventure –in USA).

Arizona 1866. The hero is a cowboy called Fenimore Fillmore, who gets involved in a shooting near Big Town, when a wild bunch attacks an old peddler. The dying peddler gives Fenimore a golden skull and tells him the legend of a fabulous treasure that he can find by collect the 3 golden skulls. To reach his goal, Fenimore Fillmore must compete with the evil Friar Anselmo and the perfidious Colonel Leconte, whom are also going after the treasure, and must also deal with fierce apaches –including the son of the chief who studies in Harvard-, with sleepy Mexican revolutionaries –whose leader is amnesiac-, with witty French soldiers –serving to emperor Maximilian of México- and with the insufferable ladies of the anti-alcoholic league. The different puzzles to solve include the fabrication of bootleg whiskey, the blowing of the safe in the bank, escaping from prison, rescue the pianist who fell on a well, provide and fly a balloon, turn a devout monk into a gallant rebel general and many more. All the elements of the plot have many similarities with the spaghetti westerns caricaturing all the stereotypes of the American Wild West.

The screen is divided in the three parts: the game scenery where the characters are, a box in the lower left corner for the verbs to execute the different actions (talk, pick up, give, look) y, next to the box, the inventory with all the different object Fenimore have. The game is controlled through the mouse using the cursor to select anything to use in the scene, the inventory or the verbs. Based in the SCUMM system developed by LucasArt, the user will perform combinations with all that, for example clicking on the hat and then on the word give and finally on a character, so Fenimore will give the hat to the selected character. To make it easier, the selected words and the objects of the inventory change color.
