Laser Squad Description

Laser Squad is a classic computer game, originally released for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64, and later for Amiga computers, and yet another couple of years later for PC computers. It was designed by Julian Gollop.

Laser Squad is unique in that it was one of the first tactical wargames to both incorporate good graphics with depth of game play.

The player took control of a squad of soldiers and would then have to complete several scenarios as he/she went through the game. the game mechanics included line-of-sight and fog of war as well as an extensive inventory of weapons and armour.

Some years later a somewhat similar game called Lords of Chaos would include many of the best elements this game had to offer but now in a fantasy-setting

It also served as heavy inspiration for both the later X-COM series of games and indeed any turn-based squad-level strategic game. Also there is a sequel called Laser Squad Nemesis.
