Star Cruiser Description

Star Cruiser is a first-person shooter game developed by Ramtek in 1977. Ramtek was an American company which manufactured computers and computer graphics display. The company was founded in 1971 and was known as the best manufacturers of raster-scan colour graphics display. Some of the game Ramtek produced in the era of arcade video games are Sea Battle (1976), Hit Me (1976), Barricade (1976), and Dark Invader (1978).

In Star Cruiser, you are to fly your space ship around the field of play and shoot down enemy ships trying to destroy your ship. As you shoot enemy ships, you gain points. Your ship is also armed with both regular and regular missiles. The regular missiles can only destroy ships within short distance while the guided missiles can go farther and destroy ships that are far away. Two players can play simultaneously in this game, both ships are on the screen at the same time as they battle enemy ships on the screen.

At the beginning of the game, your spaceship, also known as the Star Cruiser appears upper left corner of the screen. You can then steer and move it in any preferred direction. There is also a button which allows you to turbo cruise the ship in any direction. The spaceship moves faster and a whooshing sound is heard. If you hold the turbo charge button for long, your spaceship will exit the screen and reappear at the opposite side of the screen. You can activate your guided missile and steer it in any direction you want. When you are in control of this guided missile, you temporary lose control of you Star Cruiser. Also, only one missile can be in motion at a time. In a two-player game, when you take a missile hit from your opponent, your ship crashes on impact. When your spaceship is destroyed, your opponent scores one point. Both you and your opponent score are displayed at the top of the screen at all times except when a guided missile is in motion.

To win the game, you have to be the first player to score up to 7 points. In a one-player game, you play against time and your score is calculated by how much enemy ship you were able to destroy. Star Cruiser is a slow-paced game with few exceptional features. The guided missiles and turbocharge features bring a different feel to the game, but asides that, the game is just a regular shooter arcade game.
