Description:

The gameplay was loosely similar to Prince of Persia, but each Turtle had the ability to arm and withdraw their weapon. Holding the enter key made the Turtles attack, and the spacebar was used to block enemy attacks based on which arrow key was held.

Unlike the other games which were mostly based on the 1987 TV series, this had more references to the Mirage comics and the films. The opening story is loosely based on the story from Mirage's TMNT #1, though Oroku Nagi and Tang Shen go unmentioned. The Turtles rescue April O'Neil from a group of Foot Clan as opposed to the mouser robots in the Mirage comics. The game's title screen is almost an exact reproduction of the second and third pages of Eastman and Laird's TMNT #1; though the Turtles still sport their identifying colors, they lack the large eyes and happy mouths of their animated counterparts. The game included more mature themes, though no blood. Relations to the Mirage comics included Shredder's red outfit and base, the Foot Clan designs, the Triceratons, and the Mafia. The only direct relation to the 1987 series was the inclusion of Bebop and Rocksteady as bosses, and Baxter Stockman being caucasian. April O'Neil was a reporter like her 1987 cartoon and movie appearances; while she dressed in yellow like the cartoon, she resembled Paige Turco from the film. Relations to the films include Master Splinter's appearance, Tatsu making an appearance, and similar themes. Casey Jones is a major character in the game, as he was in the Mirage comics and films. Whereas Casey doesn't officially team up with the Turtles in the Mirage comics or film until he comes to their aid after they are attacked, in Manhattan Missions he allies himself with them during their initial battle.
